It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Managing Director and shareholder, Dr Reinhard Zimmermann.

He was suddenly and unexpectedly taken from us on Sunday, July 13th, 2025. We mourn the loss of our Managing Director, colleague and friend. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to his family and loved ones.

As one of the founders of in – innovative navigation GmbH (IN), Dr Zimmermann led the company for more than 26 years with exceptional personal commitment, strategic vision and a strong sense of responsibility towards our partners and clients. His early academic work at the University of Stuttgart introduced him to maritime navigation and radar image processing, subjects that would accompany him throughout his life. The groundbreaking developments of those early years laid the foundation for IN and were continuously advanced. The expansion into land-based radar systems was a logical next step, and under his leadership, IN grew to become a leading provider of vessel traffic monitoring and management systems for maritime infrastructure. His visions in the field of radar data processing and the development of tracking algorithms were groundbreaking for the company and laid the foundation for today’s success. In addition to his many tasks as Managing Director, he also developed algorithms and programmes himself and was always intensively involved with the latest technology.

To us, Reinhard has always been solid as a rock over the years – dependable, strong and driven. His passion, integrity and humanity shaped the culture of our company in a lasting way. He was not only an inspiring leader but also a person who always placed the well-being of every single employee and the values of the company at the centre of his decisions.

We are deeply grateful for the time we had with him and his vision of IN will remain a guiding force as we look to the future.
